I was biking down a forest road when a burst of coral red caught my eye along the shaded roadside. Wild columbines. I jumped off my bike, grabbed my camera and laid down in the ditch to get on eye-level with the blossoms. They were backlit by dappled sunlight and tucked in among tiny ferns. It was like a fairy garden. But the mosquitos were fierce, so the magic didn't last long. I snapped a few photos, hopped on my bike and pedaled on. It wasn't until I got back to my studio that I could relive the beautiful scene and think about how lucky I am to be able to live where columbines grace the roadsides.
